The Last of the Clevengers
About
Shortly after reaching puberty Martin Clevenger realizes he is unable to maintain an erection. This is painfully affirmed in a visit to a house of prostitution with his friend Adam and others while he was in high school, and again when seduced by a
drugstore clerk while in college. Those humiliations are emotionally devastating. He vows not to ever let it happen again and to keep his impotency secret forever.
Suppression of his sexuality has consequences—anger tantrums, episodes of depression symptoms and a destructive gambling addiction, leading to trouble with the bar association. Enter Beth Carlton, his case manager, who is soon involved in a frustrating romance with Martin. Gambling therapy commences, disclosing secrets of Martin’s earlier life.
Will he beat the gambling addition? Will he disclose his impotency? Can it be cured?
What will become of his romance with Beth? What is it about Adam that makes him the antagonist in the story?
Praise for this book
Having thoroughly enjoyed Crooked Lake I was thrilled to see Mr Berk had published a second book, The Last of The Clevengers. Once again the book and story grabbed me right from the beginning and I was totally immersed in Mr clevenger's problem(s). I couldn't wait to see where he was headed and at times felt so sorry for him. A very interesting and once again easy book to read on a subject about which many people I imagine are uninformed.
